Matt Nguyen


Matt Nguyen is a Vietnamese American and Texas A&M 2020 graduate hailing from Houston, Texas. Since getting involved with VSA back in 2016, he’s been consistently inspired to push himself forward and beyond in his leadership, academic, and professional journey by his peers and everyone else he’s met within the community. He always relishes an opportunity to learn and grow while simultaneously providing those same opportunities for other up and coming leaders. He’s been involved through numerous positions at his local TAMU VSA as well as with other regional VSA organizations and UNAVSA, where he currently works as their Associate Director for their upcoming UNAVSA-18 leadership conference. As UVSA South’s current president, he aims to provide a welcoming and enriching environment where any and all individuals who choose to get involved with the organization at any capacity are able to obtain something valuable and everlasting, whether that be the leader confidence to move forward fearlessly, the professional or academic knowledge to push onward, or meaningful relationships with peers that support them in all of their endeavors. Outside of VSA, Matt works as a Software Engineer and enjoys running, photography, videography, and traveling the world with his friends and family.

Aysia Nguyen


Aysia Thi Nguyễn is a first-generation Vietnamese American and has her B.S. in Kinesiology and B.A. in Communication from the University of Arkansas. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Higher Education at the University of Arkansas. Aysia has been involved with VSA since 2018 and has been involved in various aspects of UVSA South including being Community & Civic Engagement Chair, co-CoRR, and served on staff for Summit & Camp Legacy. She also helped establish Arkansas VSA where she served as President for two years and currently serves as their organization’s advisor. Through these experiences, she has grown her passion for VSA and has learned and developed as a leader and as a person in many ways. Because of this, she chose to be our Internal Vice President to help create connections between the members of our region and create a “gia dinh” environment that grows beyond VSA. In her free time, Aysia enjoys playing Tetris and Animal Crossing, collecting plushies, doom-scrolling through Tiktok, hanging out with her friends and her dog, Ace, and trying out local restaurants!

Danny Nguyen


Danny Nguyễn (he/him) is a Vietnamese-American currently living in Austin, TX. After spending his college years in Dallas, Danny took an unconventional path and chose to follow his passion of acting. He has held many leadership positions within UVSA South with his favorite role being Executive Director for UVSA South’s Leadership Summit. Within UNAVSA, he has held roles in the Hospitality Committee and was Family Programming Director for UNAVSA’s Virtual Experience. He has acted in many plays and culture shows, and emceed for multiple events. He is currently serving as our External Vice President, hoping to continue pouring his heart into this community. In his free time, Danny likes to play Destiny 2, binge Marvel movies, and building and fixing things with his own hands. He is most comfortable just relaxing with his friends and enjoying each other’s company.

Anhthu Tran


Anhthư Ngọc Trần is a first-generation graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a B.S. in Biology. She is currently studying at DePaul University as a graduate student for her M.S in Human Computer Interactions. She was first exposed to VSA back in 2017 and started to get more involved with UVSA South in 2018. She was previous UVSA South Marketing & Public Relations director & committee member, as well as OUVSA Vice President External and ICC. Her goals for UVSA South are to create a better interconnected community with standardized communication practices & methods in order to empower the community to voice their concerns. During her free time, she enjoys playing games with friends on discord, creating dioramas, traveling around the country and trying new dishes.
