Through our workshops, we focus on creating an inspiring space where individuals can experiment with various materials, techniques, and ideas.

Led by skilled workshop instructors, attendees not only gain new knowledge, but also have the chance to connect with others through a shared creative experience. Whether you’re seeking inspiration or just looking to have fun trying something new, these workshops provide a refreshing opportunity to unwind and discover your hidden passions.

WORKSHOP INFORMATION
Jeanne Le | Bridge the Gap: Continuity in Leadership As generations come and go, how do we ensure that we have bridged the gap and the legacy we leave behind can be continued? In this workshop, we will explore how VSA is more than just looking back on the previous year, but rather is built upon the actions and leadership of those during our VSA journey and who facilitated our growth. Whether you hold a leadership position in VSA or not, we will learn how our actions today and the ability to navigate change will prepare us to leave behind a legacy set for success. Go through a simulated activity and see if you can bridge the gap!
David Phan | From Sacrifice to Success As Vietnamese/Asian [Americans], we have a specific identity that may have shaped our understanding of the person we have become today or hope to become. When adding in your family upbringing into this mix, it can be a weird cycle of understanding your place in the world while paying respect to your family. Whether one becomes a doctor, engineer, teacher, or business owner, our career aspirations and goals are influenced by a multitude of factors. However, this upbringing and living experience can be confusing when pursuing a higher ed degree and figuring out what you truly want to do while thinking about said factors.
Thu Nguyen | Zines and Dreams
Create a zine (supplies provided) that will capture your values, aspirations, and inspirations. While attendees craft their zines, we will discuss the keynote talk and have opportunity to delve into each attendees’ experiences. This session is meant to be a reflective, supportive space to learn from, and be in solidarity with, one another.
Aysia Nguyen | Putting Ourselves First Eldest children often face distinct pressures and expectations that can lead to feelings of responsibility, a need for perfection, and a desire to overachieve. As they live through these experiences, they also frequently prioritize the needs of those around them, sometimes at the expense of their own self-identity, sacrificing their expectations, needs, and desires in the process.

This workshop will delve into the complexities surrounding “eldest child syndrome,” providing attendees with valuable insights into their familial role plays within various facets of their lives. Furthermore, we will discuss practical strategies for self-care and stress management, specifically designed to meet the unique challenges faced by eldest children, who may often overlook their own well-being in favor of supporting others. Attendees will leave with an understanding of their position within their social circles and effective tools to cultivate balance and harmony in their personal lives

Bri Nguyen | Create with Intention For those with creative minds, it is often easy to become caught up in the idea, potential, or concept of a project. While excitement is always welcomed, it can oftentimes lead the project to become out of scope or for us to overlook simple mistakes. 

In Creating with Intention, creatives will understand and practice the guidelines of quality check, managing expectations, and learn how to effectively critique work. This workshop aims to push its audience to design and create with purpose and to strive for constant improvement of their work and skill.

Cecilia Nguyen | Master the Art of Managing Up: Influence with Impact Imagine this scenario: You’re a general executive officer for your student organization, and it’s clear that the direction your team is heading could be more aligned with your expertise and skills. You’re eager to share ideas, suggest improvements, and ultimately support the success of your student organization. However, you’ve noticed that the higher leadership in the organization has their own style, preferences, and priorities that may not always align with your approach.

This is where managing up comes into play—learning how to build a productive, mutually beneficial relationship with supervisors, colleagues, peers, and key stakeholders to strengthen your own performance and develop a stronger and more effective working dynamic. Participants will learn how to foster meaningful relationships, approach feedback with empathy and clarity, and adapt their approaches to ensure continuous growth and alignment with shared goals.

Thao Tran: | Exploring How Leadership Helps You Excel Your Career As a college student, you feel like you’re constantly moving in the fast lane, managing school, work, leadership, and extracurricular activities, all while building yourself to be a stronger candidate for an internship or job you may have had your eye on. Student involvement in organizations like VSA could be what sets you apart from other candidates when applying for jobs. So how exactly can putting VSA on my resume be beneficial to my career potential? How do we promote and ensure our skills are communicated effectively in our resume for potential employers? In this workshop, you will learn how to translate your VSA experience into your resume, whether it be volunteer or president, into a set of core competencies and points that will help you excel in your career, regardless of the field.
Christina Tang | Your Story, Our Story Maya Angelou once said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This activity allows you all to share about yourselves in a way that you usually would not in typical social settings. After this workshop, everyone will have more of a sense of self as well as a level of empathy for others as we all go through our journeys in life. Ripples of change can happen in the room as we show attendees that beyond the facade that most of us put on to suffice society’s expectations, we can create safe spaces to just be ourselves
