OUM III: Vanguard Scholarship

We proudly introduce our first-time scholarship opportunity provided by The World’s Bar, the Vanguard Scholarship! This scholarship provides the opportunity for individuals who show exemplary character and ambition to further develop the Asian American community in Oklahoma.

Our hope is to encourage our attendees to continually engage the community in leadership and diversity throughout their journey as a student and young professional. The World’s Bar hopes that the scholarship recipients will serve as future leaders and foster growth in support and passion among their networks and peers.

It is our honor to be a driving force that will help encourage young minds to promote progress throughout our daily lives.

The Vanguard Scholarship will award the recipients:
• A certificate recognizing the scholarship awarded to them
• Reimbursement of their Oklahoma Unity Mixer (OUM) Registration Fee
• Reimbursement of their Hotel Fee during OUM for the year that they receive the award
• A stipend to retroactively cover travel and other expenses
• Any other materials or items seen fit to be awarded by either The World’s Bar Board of Directors or Oklahoma Unity Mixer Staff

The number of scholarships awarded will be depend on the applicant pool and the winners will be announced during the closing ceremony of the Oklahoma Unity Mixer.

We are excited to announce that this year our Third Annual Oklahoma Unity Mixer will be on February 17-19, at the University of Oklahoma in Norman OK.

This being our third year, we want to build off the momentum of past years. We have created a community of young Asian Americans who are excited to network and grow. We hope to see our family grow into future leaders and professionals that will have positive impacts on the world around us.

3rd Annual OUM: Directors Announcement

First and foremost, we would like to say thank everyone who applied for the Director position for the 3rd Annual Oklahoma Unity Mixer (OUM). The director position consists of six, unique positions: Logistics, Marketing, Finance and Business Relations, Adventure Team, Media/IT, and Programming.

The process of selecting the Director(s) has three phases: the Application, the Interview, and finally, the Discussion. Upon interviewing the candidates for these six Directors position, the current Co-Executive Directors, Lillian Trinh and Steven Tran, and the Board of Advisers, Tue N. Dinh and Ty Pfeiffer, have thoroughly discussed the candidates’ qualifications and analyzed the possible outcomes that would push OUM to the next level of excellence within Oklahoma. As leaders, we constantly face difficult decisions when it comes to what is best for the community. We work together in order to create a hub that helps not only the individual but also the community at large. We are so grateful to have received such qualified candidates for these positions. Not only are they qualified, they are passionate in wanting to create more opportunities for the Oklahoma Unity Mixer and UVSA South.

After these three phases, we are happy to present the Directors for the 3rd Annual Oklahoma Unity Mixer.

Meet Your 3rd Annual Oklahoma Unity Mixer Co-Executive Directors!

Meet Your 3rd Annual Oklahoma Unity Mixer Co-Executive Directors! These two individuals will be the ones who will guide the next OUM Staff in hopes to provide valuable resources and activities that will further connect our state and UVSA South region and help our family grow.

Lillian Trinh
Lillian Trinh is a Senior at the University of Oklahoma. She is currently studying Letters Constitutional Studies Pre-Law. Lillian is a two-time former director for the Oklahoma Unity Mixer, as well as President of OU Filipino Student Association. Lillian’s greatest passion is working with student organizations and empowering people to become leaders. Her passion was ignited when she was introduced to the Union of the Vietnamese Student Associations South by a good friend. Since then she likes to spend her time traveling to various schools throughout the region and getting to know as many as possible. She hopes one day she will achieve her dreams of becoming a Youtube personality and travel the world inspiring people.

Steven Tran
Steven Tran is a graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and is working to prepare for graduate school, in the upcoming year. Steven has a growing passion in inspiring others to expand their horizons, and discover more about themselves, helping them reach to heights that they have not reached before. He has been the president for the Asian American Student Association at UCO, and worked to inspire students to make them feel welcome to the organization. He was also the Logistics Director for the 2nd Oklahoma Unity Mixer, and worked to organize the rooms and location for the event itself. Steven has made it a part of his mission to fully understanding those around him, helping those in need, and where his friends are in need of someone to listen to, he will try to be there for them.

Since the creation of OUM, we have made tremendous progress in our community. We have made bonds across the state and region that will potentially last a lifetime. We could not have done this without the support of our friends, family, directors, staff, and sponsors. Our dream is for this momentum to continue and allow us to provide a safe environment for self-development and further build the networks within our community. We are ecstatic to see our family grow into future leaders and professionals that will have positive impacts on the world around us.

The process of selecting the Executive Director(s) has three phases: the Application, the Interview, and the Discussion. Upon interviewing the candidates for the next OUM Executive Director(s) position, the current Board of Advisers, Tue “Tommy” Dinh and Ty Pfeiffer, thoroughly discussed the candidates’ qualifications and analyzed the possible outcomes that would push OUM to the next level of excellence within Oklahoma. As leaders, we constantly face difficult decisions when it comes to what is best for the community. There is no doubt that they will push themselves to their limits to exceed what is expected of them in becoming the next Co-EDs. They both have positive and unique qualities that we believe will enhance the experience for the next OUM staff and attendees.
